JACKSON, Tenn. — Just one day away from the Miss Teen Volunteer America Pageant, we have more information leading up to night one of the competition.

We had the opportunity to speak with current title holder of Miss Teen Volunteer America and the woman that made it all possible.

51 contestants all met this afternoon to begin rehearsals for Miss Teen Volunteer America. Founder of Miss Volunteer America Allison Alderson says she still uses tools that she learned while competing.

“Really what we’re doing here is looking for the total package. That’s why there’s not a category that weighs more than another. So we’re looking for someone who’s extremely well rounded. We want these girls to improve their interview skills because that’s how they’re going to get their jobs later in life,” said Alderson.

Contestants will be judged on their evening gowns, health and fitness, talent, and their interviews with the judges.

“That was where I learned the right way to address health and wellness. I learned how to work out correctly. How to take care of my body and those are the same skills that as an old woman I still go and revert back to,” said Alderson.

For Miss Teen Volunteer America, Anna Grace Loudenbeck, rehearsal night is her favorite. She hopes all the girls take the time to enjoy the days leading up to the final night. During this time, she reflected on her time as title holder.

“Your success is not defined by a crown that’s placed on your head, rather the ambition, drive and the compassion you show other people through what you do. So, getting to serve with the Salvation Army and St. Jude all year has proved that. Like I can do big things,” said Loudenbeck.

She also offers advice to the next winner.

“Slow it down and enjoy it because you were chosen for a reason. When you’re bestowed an honor like that you question you know, what’s my purpose? What am I going to get out of this?” I am walking away knowing that I found why I have this job and why everyone trusted me with it,” said Loudenbeck.

Loudenbeck is currently in her second year of college and shares what her next step will be.

“We’ll see if I’ll come back to pageants but I got the bug so I probably will. I’ve fallen in love and I’m just going to take a breath and be a college girl for a while,” said Loudenbeck.

Night one will be hosted at the Carl Perkins Civic Center Thursday evening beginning at 7 p.m.
