GREENVILLE, S.C. – Lady Vols basketball started to look like itself again in its first game of the SEC Tournament.
No. 9 seed Tennessee had a slower start against No. 16 seed Texas A&M, but it took control of the game in the second quarter when it held the Aggies to six points.
The Lady Vols ran away with the game in the second half to beat Texas A&M 77-37 on Wednesday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. It was the fewest amount of points Tennessee has given up all season – the previous low was 50 points three different times in nonconference play.
Talaysia Cooper led Tennessee (22-8) with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jewel Spear and Zee Spearman added 11 points, and Samara Spencer had 10. Cooper had a plus-minus score of +39 in 23 minutes played.
Tennessee got back to its defensive identity and overwhelmed the Aggies (10-19) with its defensive pressure, scoring 37 points off 32 Texas A&M turnovers. The Aggies scored nine or fewer points in the last three quarters.

Lady Vols vs Texas A&M prediction
Tennessee 75, Texas A&M 67: If Tennessee was playing any other team, I might predict a loss brewing in Greenville with the way it has been playing. But given the Aggies are this injured, the Lady Vols would have to play even worse than Sunday to lose this one.
Lady Vols vs Texas A&M injury updates
- Tennessee is without senior guard Kaiya Wynn, who’s out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. Cooper was listed as a game-time decision on the SEC injury report Wednesday after rolling her ankle Sunday.
- Texas A&M was without four players on Sunday. Aicha Coulibaly, Vanessa Saidu and Taliyah Parker and were all listed as out on the SEC injury report.
