Even though we don’t have any green-dyed rivers here in Massachusetts, two cities still ranked among the best places to go for St. Patrick’s Day, according to a new study.
Personal finance website WalletHub released a ranking of best cities to go for St. Patrick’s Day, and both Boston and Worcester made the top five spots.
It compiled the study by comparing cities across 15 key indicators of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, including parades, history and weather.
“The best cities for St. Patrick’s Day combine rich traditions with tasty and affordable food, safe conditions to celebrate, and good weather,” a WalletHub spokesperson said.

Why is Boston the best place for St. Patrick’s Day?
According to the WalletHub ranking, Boston is the top city for St. Patrick’s Day in part because of its massive parade.
The city also scored high for its widespread options of Irish food and drink, with Boston having the sixth-most Irish pubs and sixth-most Irish restaurants per capita.
Boston is also the fifth-most Irish city in the U.S. in terms of ancestry, with over 13% of the city’s residents being of Irish descent, according to the list.
Why is Worcester among the best cities for St. Patrick’s Day?
Worcester came in at No. 5 on the list for best cities for St. Patrick’s Day.
The city ranked highly for its holiday traditions as well as its safety and accessibility.
Worcester also scored better than Boston in both the costs and weather categories.
