The world is a scary place for a newborn kitten without a home. For Berry, that’s especially true.
Berry was born with spina bifida, which occurs when a spinal column doesn’t close properly in utero. A neurological condition requiring lifelong care, the kitten’s symptoms include diminished reflexes in the hind legs, malformed vertebrae, and urinary and fecal incontinence.
Though he was small enough to nap in a teacup, his needs were too big for other shelters. That’s where Tabby’s Place, a cage-free cat sanctuary in the Ringoes section of East Amwell, came in for the rescue.

Tabby’s Place embraces the neediest cats regardless of age, medical issues or temperament, making it a harbor of hope for the most desperate cases and cats with advanced needs.
As springtime marks the start of “kitten season,” the sanctuary expects an influx of kittens with nowhere else to turn.
Tabby’s Place is hosting a Cherish the Kittens Fund Drive. Through Thursday, May 1, all donations will be doubled.
