Republican Party of Iowa Chair Jeff Kaufmann will again lead the committee tasked with recommending the dates and order of the Republican Party’s presidential primary, signaling the GOP’s continued confidence in Iowa’s place at the front of the line.
The Republican National Committee named Kaufmann as chair of the Presidential Nominating Process Committee, he announced Oct. 16.
“I’m proud that Iowa continues to play a leading role in defining what it means to be a Republican and ensuring grassroots voters everywhere have a voice in choosing our next nominee,” Kaufmann said in a statement. “Together, we’ll build a process that reflects our values, strengthens our party, and positions us to win in 2028.”
Kaufmann led the same committee as chair ahead of the 2024 presidential primaries.

Iowa is expected to once again kick off the GOP nomination process with its first-in-the-nation caucuses.
That stands in contrast to Democrats, who lost their lead-off spot following a disastrous 2020 caucus that was plagued by errors and delays in results.
National Democrats are just beginning to debate what their presidential primary calendar will look like in 2028.
In Iowa, Democrats have issued a survey to their constituents about whether they want to obey the national party’s process or go “rogue” with a renewed push for first-in-the-nation status.
