Emily Blunt attended the 2025 Governors Awards on Sunday evening in LA, and for the first time in a long time, I find myself struggling with a Blunt x Schiaparelli x red red-carpet collaboration.

Normally, any combination of trio is a slam dunk. We’ve celebrated the union of Schiaparelli’s sculptural surrealism and Emily’s refined glamour many times over, most notably her 2024 Oscars Y-Fronts dress. Add the fact that red is one of her most winning colours (Louis Vuitton at the 2024 SAG Awards and Armani Privé at the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards), and this should have been a guaranteed favourite.
But I’m struggling to get on board with this. Most of you will immediately zero in on the V-shaped tulle insert and those ripples where it meets the satin. I see it too.
However, that isn’t even my biggest sticking point. It’s the bodice and shoulder construction. The shoulder detail feels oddly unresolved — almost messy — and that is never a word I associate with either Emily Blunt or Schiaparelli.
On the runway, I was never enamoured by this look, but sometimes a red carpet setting can transform a piece. Not here. If anything, the runway version had sharper intention. This reads as if the dress is still figuring itself out.
For someone as consistently strong as Emily, this lands as a rare misfire.
MESSIKA jewels and a red Schiaparelli clutch completed the look.
