Hundreds of Georgians are receiving some very bad news around the holidays.
Over the last week, the USA Today Network has received WARN Notices for multiple companies announcing various layoffs totaling just under 1,000 people losing their jobs. Here’s who we heard from:
Augusta layoffs
Doctors Hospital in Augusta informed Sodexo that it will no longer use the company for food services, so around Jan. 31, Sodexo will close its operations there and lay off 67 employees. Doctors Hospital will reportedly be providing their own services.
Savannah layoffs
Memorial Health in Savannah informed Sodexo that it will no longer use the company for food services, so around Jan. 31, Sodexo will close its operations there and lay off 120 employees. Memorial Health will reportedly be providing their own services.
More Georgia layoffs
Lehigh Technologies in Tucker will lay off 55 employees due to the closing of its manufacturing plant. This will start Feb. 2 and run through Sept. 18.
Smurfit Westrock in Atlanta will lay off 55 employees around Jan. 5. No information was provided on why.
Baker & Taylor, LLC in Commerce will lay off 289 employees by the end of the year. As of Oct., there have already been 214, and another 75 will be laid off by Dec. 22. This is due to the closure of their commerce facility.
General Motors will lay off all 325 of its employees which have been working at the Georgia IT Innovation Center in Roswell, which stopped operations on Oct. 27. All layoffs are expected to be complete by Dec. 12.
SimplyIOA in Longwood, FL will lay off 65 Georgia employees working remotely on Dec. 2. This is due to the closure of their facility in Florida.
CoStar Group in Atlanta will lay off three employees starting Jan. 12. This is due to a reorganization at the company.
