In-N-Out, a fast food chain known for its animal style fries and burgers, is opening restaurants in Tennessee this year. But the company’s CEO is putting a limit on further east expansion
Once praised by late food authority Anthony Bourdain, the California chain restaurant has continued to expand beyond its West Coast roots in recent years, opening locations in Colorado, Texas and Idaho. Now it’s moved even further east with locations set to open in Tennessee.
The chain, which is also looking at moving its headquarters to Tennessee, according to USA TODAY, said in a statement that it will open locations in Middle Tennessee “by the end of this year.” In-N-Out said that it expects three Volunteer State locations to open by the end of 2025 and another restaurant in early 2026, though no specific dates were provided for the openings.
For those hoping to get a Double-Double or some animal-style fries in South Carolina, here’s where In-N-Out will open its next Southern locations and the likelihood of expansion further east.

Will In-N-Out be coming to South Carolina?
Unfortunately for fans of the burger chain located in the Palmetto State, any rumors of In-N-Out locations coming to South Carolina anytime soon aren’t true. In-N-Out CEO Lynsi Snyder explained during a July 18 appearance on the “Relatable” podcast that it simply isn’t feasible to open East Coast locations in areas other than Tennessee.
“We’re able to reach Tennessee from our Texas warehouse,” Snyder said. “We’ll have a warehouse, but not do our own meat there, so we’ll be able to deliver from Texas.”
The company operates a majority of its locations in California, and Snyder added that the bulk of the company’s stores will still be in California.
“Florida has begged us, and we’re still saying no,” Snyder said. “The East Coast states, we’re still saying no.”
