While the Yankees try to land Cody Bellinger as their third and final starting outfielder, Jasson Domínguez is down in the Dominican Republic trying to get the reps he lost out on late last season.

The former top prospect was squeezed out of playing time most notably by the emergence of Trent Grisham, who is coming back next season after accepting the Yankees’ $22.025 million qualifying offer. And if their offseason goes according to plan, they will also be running it back with Bellinger, who can share the starting outfield with Grisham and reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge.

The Yankees may tell you that this is a good problem to have and that Domínguez still got a strong run of play through the first two-thirds of the season as they gave weekly days off to a group of Domínguez, Grisham, Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Rice (largely taking advantage of Giancarlo Stanton’s early-season absence). And if Bellinger returns next season, it does not take too much work to find Domínguez a decent amount of at-bats if everyone stays healthy, which almost never happens.

But even if Bellinger ends up elsewhere and Kyle Tucker does not end up a Yankee (they will likely remain linked to him until he signs somewhere, but Bellinger continues to make more sense), Domínguez’s future with the organization remains uncertain.
