Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz says it is “shameful” that motorists are shouting the “r-word” driving by his home — and that he is “deeply concerned” the hate allegedly started by President Trump could “turn to violence.”
Walz, speaking to reporters Thursday about the state budget, revealed in an aside that drivers have been repeating Trump’s claims that the Democratic governor is “seriously retarded” for letting tens of thousands of Somali immigrants take over his “once great state.”
“This creates danger,” Walz said. “And I’ll tell you what. In my time on this, I’d never seen this before: People driving by my house and using the r-word in front of people.
“This is shameful. And I have yet to see an elected official, a Republican elected official say, ‘You’re right. That’s shameful. He should not say it.’
“So look, I’m worried. We know how these things go. They start with taunts, they turn to violence, so deeply concerned,” Walz said.
Trump had raged in a Thanksgiving evening social-media post that massive fraud is being perpetrated through nonprofits in the North Star State — some of which was carried out by Somalians who funneled taxpayer funding to the terror group al-Shabaab.
“Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone,” the president posted to his Truth Social on Nov. 27.
“The seriously retarded Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both,” Trump wrote. “Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation. Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”
Walz shot back on X, “Release the MRI results,” referring to a recent health test the president underwent.
White House presidential physician Dr. Sean Barbabella has since done so, characterizing Trump’s Oct. 10 exam as standard and its findings as “perfectly normal.”
Trump then tore into Minnesota’s two-term governor again Tuesday, telling reporters, “I see these people ripping it off.
“And now I’m understanding, and you’re going to look at that, I hear they ripped off, Somalians, ripped off that state for billions of dollars, billions, every year billions of dollars. And they contribute nothing. The welfare is like 88 percent. They contribute nothing,” Trump raged.
He doubled down on there being “something wrong” with Walz when asked about his remarks Sunday, while also suggesting at other times that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who emigrated from Somalia and represents a district located in Minneapolis, should be kicked out of office.
Walz’s son Gus has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD and an anxiety disorder, said the former Democratic vice-presidential nominee and his wife to People magazine during the 2024 election.
Federal prosecutors have convicted dozens of fraudsters in the Twin Cities since 2022 for ripping off state social services to the tune of more than $250 million by bilking taxpayers for food aid that was never sent to schoolchildren.
The scammers — most of whom were working for the nonprofit Feeding Our Future — spent their ill-gotten gains on luxury real-estate properties and flashy cars.
The Post exclusively reported Monday that the US House Oversight Committee was investigating as much as $1 billion in potential fraud as a result. The Treasury Department is also probing the scheme.
Employees for state agencies blamed Walz for the fraud, but the governor has placed responsibility on his state’s “culture of generosity.”
Walz is currently running for a third term as Minnesota’s governor in the 2026 state elections.
