
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home on December 14, 2025.
TMZ reported at the time that the Los Angeles Fire Department had been called to the scene in the afternoon to administer “medical aid.” It was later reported that a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman had been killed in Rob and Michele’s Brentwood, California home. A spokesperson for the family subsequently confirmed that Rob and Michele, who wed in 1989, were the deceased.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the statement, shared with Variety, read. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The following day, Us Weekly confirmed that Rob and Michele’s son, Nick Reiner, had been arrested on a murder charge following their deaths.

Who Was Rob Reiner?
Rob kicked off his acting career in the 1960s. While he was known for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the 1970s sitcom All in the Family at the start of his career, Rob went on to become one of the most notable directors in Hollywood.
He was responsible for films like The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men, Rumor Has It, The Bucket List and more. Rob also made appearances in shows like New Girl and The Bear over the years. He also starred in films like Sleepless in Seattle and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Rob met wife Michele while shooting When Harry Met Sally, which greatly impacted the film.
“I had been married for 10 years. I’d been single for 10 years, and I couldn’t figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody, and that gave birth to When Harry Met Sally,” Rob said during a 2024 interview. “I met my wife Michele, who I’ve been married to now [for] 35 years. I met her while we were making the film, and I changed the ending.”
Rob and Michele wed in 1989, and they welcomed three kids — sons Jake and Nick and daughter Romy — during their marriage. Rob is also the father of Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted during his past marriage to the late Penny Marshall.
How Did Rob Reiner and His Wife Die?
Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan S. Hamilton confirmed in a press conference on December 14, 2025, that Rob and Michele were found with “apparent stab wounds.”
Assistant Police Chief Dominic Choi later confirmed during a December 16 press conference that the couple were found dead in their bedroom. The New York Times later reported that their daughter, Romy, found her father’s body after Rob and Michele failed to open the gate to their home for a scheduled appointment with a massage therapist.
Romy apparently went over to her parents’ house with her roommate, who called 911. Romy reportedly did not know that her mother had also died and learned of her death from the paramedics who arrived on scene.
When Did Rob and Michele Reiner Die?
The Los Angeles Police Department released further details on December 15, 2025.
Authorities had entered Rob and Michele’s home at around 3:40 p.m. local time the day before where they found and later identified the two victims. The LAPD opened an investigation surrounding their deaths.
“As a result of the initial investigation, it was determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide,” the press release read, noting that their son Nick was named as the person responsible for their deaths.
Who Was Arrested for Killing Rob Reiner and His Wife?
Us confirmed on December 15, 2025, that Rob and Michele’s son Nick was arrested on a murder charge following his parents’ death. The LAPD has since released a statement revealing Nick was taken into custody at 9:15 p.m. local time the prior evening.
Investigators believe that Nick left his parents’ Brentwood neighborhood and traveled toward the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, per a report from ABC News. Authorities reportedly found Nick at a metro station close by the college campus six hours after Rob and Michele were killed. Photos obtained by Page Six showed Nick wearing a black track jacket with white stripes as he was taken into police custody.
Prior to his arrest, it was widely reported that Nick was being looked at as a person of interest in the case. A source told Us on December 14, 2025, that there was speculation one of Rob and Michele’s family members was involved in their deaths.
Us also reported that Nick joined Rob and Michele at Conan O’Brien‘s Christmas party on December 13, 2025. A separate insider alleged that Nick was acting “creepily” before departing the event. (TMZ and People reported that Rob and Nick had gotten into an argument at the party.)
Is Ron Reiner’s Son Nick in Jail?
Nick is currently in custody with no bail, the LAPD confirmed on December 15, 2025.
Rob previously explored his relationship with Nick in the 2015 film Being Charlie. The father and son duo worked on the film together. Nick cowrote the script while in rehab and the film — starring Cary Elwes and Nick Robinson — showcased his struggles with addiction and homelessness.
What Is Nick Reiner Being Charged With?
On December 16, 2025, Los Angeles district attorney Nathan Hochman announced in a press conference that Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Nick is facing life in prison without parole or death penalty. He will be arraigned after undergoing medical clearance, per Hochman.
