Sami Zayn was the right choice to become the No. 1 contender for the Undisputed WWE championship at “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” Being the ultimate choice at the Royal Rumble is a whole other question.

Zayn has been talking consistently for around a year about becoming a world champion for the first time and will get the chance against Drew McIntyre this coming Saturday at the Royal Rumble in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after winning a fatal-four-way against Randy Orton, Trick Williams and Damian Priest.

The settings are important here as Saturday’s win came at the Bell Centre in Zayn’s home country of Canada with his wife and kid, who he evoked in a promo asking how many world titles he won, in the front row. Zayn is also a Syrian Muslim and will be a heavy fan favorite in Saudi Arabia. Zayn’s world title quest remains one of the best stories WWE still has to tell.

It was a great moment to end a solid match when Zayn delivered a Helluva Kick to Priest as Randy Orton could not get in the ring in time to break up the pin. The newly called up Williams was protected, it will only fuel a livid Orton’s fire to win world championship No. 15, even if it felt like a finish that took the crowd too off guard.
