BOSTON — If you predicted Brent Headrick to have the seventh-highest bWAR of any Yankee at the halfway point of the season, I’m guessing you are either blood-related or lying.
Because as much as the Yankees had high hopes for the lefty reliever entering this year, it was difficult to imagine him being quite this good, this dependable and this frequently used in a bullpen that was in need of some trustworthy arms.
Headrick has posted 1.5 bWAR, which trails only Cam Schlittler, Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, Paul Goldschmidt and Max Fried on the Yankees. He is in that company because of his 1.66 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 38 innings while establishing himself as a legitimate high-leverage arm in Aaron Boone’s circle of trust.
“He’s been huge for us down there,” Boone said on Wednesday.
