This is always a difficult and somber day of reflection and remembrance, especially in New York, but 25 years later, it still does not seem real.
The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, represent one of the darkest moments in our country’s and our city’s histories. But we came together and rallied around each other in the ensuing days, weeks and months, and sports absolutely aided in the healing efforts.
Every local team visited Ground Zero and showed support and compassion for first responders and grieving families.
A quarter-century later, kudos to Major League Baseball for scheduling a Mets-Yankees series this weekend in The Bronx, because the local nines did whatever they could to spearhead the healing process in 2001.
