Off Campus star Antonio Cipriano is supportive of the Prime Video coming-of-age drama series deviating from author Elle Kennedy‘s book order — even if it means he has to wait a bit longer for his character John Logan to step into the spotlight.
“I feel like I’m now officially ready to take that leading role,” Cipriano, 26, told Elite Daily in an interview published on Tuesday, October 13. “It took two seasons for me to get here and feel this way, but now I’m ready to lock in.”
Off Campus producers previously confirmed that they will shift the order of adapting Kennedy’s novels so that season 2 of the TV show is based on the third book, The Score, which is centered around Briar Hawks defenceman Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis (Gen V‘s Stephen Kalyn) and aspiring actress Allie Hayes (The Pitt alum Mika Abdalla).
A potential third season of Off Campus has yet to be greenlit by Amazon, though it could theoretically adapt Kennedy’s second book, The Mistake. That 2016 romance novel explores a connection between Hawks forward John Logan (Cipriano) and incoming Briar University freshman Grace Ivers (The Agency star India Fowler).
Confirming he knew “at the audition [stage]” about Off Campus’ shifting running order, Cipriano added, “It just makes sense, because Allie is [Ella Bright‘s first season lead character] Hannah’s close friend, so you already care about her. I don’t think you could’ve done that with Grace and Logan since it’s a different setup.”
In his latest interview, Cipriano touched on getting an extra season to play John before he potentially steps into a central position on Off Campus.
“It’s a good thing, I think. Getting to watch Belmont [Cameli] and Ella really start this momentum and then Stephen and Mika stepping up in season 2, they’re so brilliant at what they’re doing and it inspired me a lot,” he noted.
Viewers can expect to see some budding chemistry develop between John and Grace. Cipriano teased his instant chemistry with costar Fowler, revealing it was “pretty evident right away that she was perfect” to play his onscreen love interest.
The second and potential third seasons of Off Campus will also delve into John’s complicated dynamic with sibling Jules, an original character created especially for the show.
“I think it really changes things that Logan is now a middle child. I relate to that, as a middle child myself. There’s an element of having to be the peacekeeper, or feeling like you have to be the glue to hold the family together,” Cipriano told the outlet. “That adds such a weight to this situation where he’s already so conflicted about if he should play in the NHL or stay at home to step up for his family.”
Off Campus is expected to be released on Prime Video in 2027.
