MILWAUKEE — The Dodgers were never the bogeyman.
Appreciate how rare and difficult it was to become the first team in a quarter of century to win back-to-back titles. And I can tell you from firsthand observation of the last back-to-back-to-back champion why the Dodgers did not match that.
A few guys age out of the dynasty and are replaced by expensive, famous and talented guys, but perhaps not quite the same fit — Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield, Randy Johnson, Edwin Díaz, Kyle Tucker. The breaks of Isiah Kiner-Falefa not taking a 6-inch wider lead and Andy Pages and Kiké Hernandez running into each other, but Pages catching the ball anyway don’t go your way regardless of how much you spend.
That is why the Dodgers were not the bogeyman for those wanting a salary cap.
