SEC Nation’s Matt Barrie wasn’t having it with Auburn’s mascot, Aubie the Tiger, during Saturday’s halftime show between LSU (5-2) vs. Auburn (4-3) .
While No.18 LSU held a 31-10 lead on the road, Aubie was behind the crew in a festive mood during halftime, throwing around candy. Barrie isn’t too fond of the treats getting tossed in his direction.
“I’m gonna punch the tiger if he doesn’t stop throwing candy at me,” said Barrie.
Barrie was trying to present the first-half stats from the SEC matchup, in which both Tiger-named schools needed a win to build their playoff resumes as two-loss programs.
LSU was in dangerous territory, where the stakes of each game heighten after their road loss to No. 12 Kentucky back in Week 6. The Tigers were able to rattle off an impressive 31-0 shutout victory at home vs. Mississippi State.
LSU entered Auburn without one of their anchors on defense, as All-American linebacker Whit Weeks got ruled out with an injury.
Auburn entered the matchup on cloud nine after a walk-off game-winning field goal to upset first-ranked Georgia in Athens last week.
Alex Golesh’s squad still wasn’t ranked in the polls after the massive win, so another ranked SEC win should win over the committee.
LSU came out to a tremendous lead thanks to quarterback Sam Leavitt firing. The junior went 21-for-27 with 261 yards and three touchdowns.
He also ran in a score off a 4-yard scamper right before the end of the half, adding to his conference-leading rushing touchdown total among signal callers (eight).
Auburn couldn’t overcome the 21-point deficit as LSU handily defeated the Tigers 38-17.
Aubie the Tiger should have more candy to throw around next week as Auburn heads to Oxford to face No. 7 Ole Miss on Halloween.
