Natalie Portman is opening up about life as a mom of three after giving birth to her and boyfriend Tanguy Destable‘s first baby together.
In a new Harper’s Bazaar cover story published on Monday, October 26, Portman, 45, gushed that she is “full of wonder and joy at this magical little human,” sharing a rare comment about raising her family.
“It gives me a whole new attention to my big kids too, as I am reminded of how recently they were these little fresh creations and how quickly they’ve blossomed into incredible humans with their own amazing personalities and senses of humor and ideas,” she said.
Portman became a mom in 2011 when she welcomed son Aleph with Benjamin Millepied. The pair tied the knot in 2012, later expanding their family with daughter Amalia in 2017.
Us confirmed in 2023 that Portman and Millepied, who sparked their romance after working together on the movie Black Swan, were separated amid rumors he had been unfaithful.
“They’re being very civil toward each other for the kids,” a source exclusively told Us in early 2024, shortly before the pair’s divorce was finalized. “Benjamin would love to have Natalie back, but she’s not interested right now.”
A second insider noted Portman wanted the split to be “as harmonious as possible.”
Portman moved on with Destable, a French music producer. The actress confirmed to Harper’s Bazaar in April that she was pregnant with their first baby together.
“Tanguy and I are very excited,” she said at the time. “I’m just very grateful. I know it’s such a privilege and a miracle. I grew up hearing about how hard it is to get pregnant. I have so many people I love who’ve had such a hard time with it that I want to be respectful around that as well. It’s such a beautiful, joyous thing, and it’s also not an easy thing.”
She added, “I know how lucky it is. I’m very aware, and I’m very grateful. I have deep appreciation and gratitude.”
News broke in September that Portman quietly gave birth one month earlier.
While reflecting on her life and career in her latest interview, Portman said she’s focusing on “joy.” (Her new film The Gallerist, starring Jenna Ortega and Sterling K. Brown, debuts in December.)
“I think it’s both for myself and what I hope to offer an audience, because it just feels … I mean, every time has dark moments, but it feels like there’s a lot of really heavy stuff going on,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “It’s just ever-present in our face, and so it does feel like the biggest service you can do right now as an artist is to deliver some joy.”
