The search for the Liberty’s next head coach is underway a year after they went through a lengthy process.
Mercury associate head coach Kristi Toliver, former Nets assistant Will Weaver and Raptors assistant Jama Mahlalela were finalists for the job a year ago. The Liberty went with longtime Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco, who’s out of the job after a year.
Whether the Liberty would consider circling back on those candidates — or if they would be interested in going through the interview process a second time — remains unclear.
One takeaway from this experiment, though, is that the Liberty can’t go after a novice head coach again and should include the team’s stars, especially Breanna Stewart, in the search process.
