The upcoming Aaron Rodgers documentary will cover the athlete’s life in detail — even its darkest elements.
In a new trailer for Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, which screened during the Tuesday, December 3, episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers, 41, spoke about his fractured relationships.
“I live between two worlds of the extraverted and an introverted lever of silence,” the New York Jets quarterback said in the teaser trailer ahead of the three-part series’ release on Tuesday, December 17. “Losing friendships, family, it was heartbreaking.”
The docuseries will chart Rodgers progress back to the NFL field after he tore his left Achilles tendon in September 2023 after just four plays into the season. (Rodgers returned to football in September, marking a one year absence.)
Rodgers’ personal relationships have made headlines over the years. He has been estranged from his parents, Ed and Darla Rodgers, and two brothers, Luke and Jordan, for almost a decade. Details into the family’s strain went public through Jordan’s appearance on The Bachelorette in 2016, when Jordan spoke about missing his brother. (Jordan, 36, found love with JoJo Fletcher during his reality TV stint and the pair married in May 2022.)
In July that year, Rodgers told ABC’s WISN 12 News that he found it “a little inappropriate” to discuss family matters publicly, refusing to address Jordan’s insight.
Rodgers’ rift with his parents has seen its own ups and downs, most notably when he revealed on the “Pretty Intense” podcast in 2020, which is hosted by his ex-girlfriend, Danica Patrick, that he “just had to go” to church as a child, despite Ed and Darla being devout Christians.
Romantically, Rodgers is believed to be dating model Mallory Edens, the daughter of Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wes Edens. The pair — who have never confirmed their relationship status — were last spotted attending an Ed Sheeran concert together in June 2023.
The sighting came after the end of his engagement to Shailene Woodley, which was confirmed in February 2022. The pair had begun dating in July 2020 and Rodgers confirmed their engagement nearly one year later.
Woodley, 33, recently opened up about her former bond with Rodgers, revealing that her feelings for him are still raw. “I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry,” the actress told Outside magazine in an interview published on Tuesday, December 3. “It was not right. But it was beautiful.”
In addition to delving into his relationships, Enigma will also capture Rodgers’ journey to spirituality, as showcased in the trailer. “I started my spiritual journey … everything shifted,” he told cameras.
Filmed drinking an unspecified drink from a bowl, Rodgers added, “The metamorphosis is happening. I’m trying to find what a new edge is.”
Aaron Rodgers: Enigma begins streaming on Netflix December 17.
