SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Award-winning comedian and San Francisco native Ali Wong was seen dining at one of The City’s most beloved Pho spots. Wong was seen dining with her boyfriend — fellow comedian and actor Bill Hader — at Turtle Tower in the Financial District this week, the restaurant posted on Instagram.
“Great food and even better company! We’re thrilled to be back in San Francisco and so grateful for all the love and support. A huge thank you to @aliwong and @billfreakinghader for stopping by this week and showing love to our small business, it truly means the world to us,” Turtle Tower said in a post on Wednesday.
It is no surprise that Wong paid a visit to Turtle Tower in San Francisco. In an episode of acclaimed YouTube show “Hot Ones” last fall, Wong revealed her love for the restaurant known for its Vietnamese noodle soup. However, at the time, Turtle Tower had not reopened yet.
“It doesn’t exist anymore, but I love Turtle Tower in San Francisco — had a great chicken Pho,” Wong said in October.
Turtle Tower held its soft opening on March 12 after being out of business for almost two years. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Turtle Tower closed in 2023 in the SoMa neighborhood. The business was revived thanks to two investors who are fans of the northern-style pho, the outlet reports.

Wong is known to have propped up other Bay Area Vietnamese restaurants. In that same episode of “Hot Ones,” Wong said Pho Ha Noi in San Jose is on her Mount Rushmore (four greatest) of noodle soups.
Turtle Tower is located at 220 California St. in San Francisco. Pho Ha Noi has five locations in the Bay Area: Fremont, San Jose, Milpitas, Cupertino and Palo Alto.
Earlier this year, Wong, 42, took home some hardware at the Golden Globes. She won “Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television” for her Netflix special “Ali Wong: Single Lady” — the first female comedian to win that category.
In her victory speech, Wong honored her San Francisco roots as a reason for her success. Wong attended San Francisco University High School in Pacific Heights.
