Joan Vassos accepted Chock Chapple’s marriage proposal during the Wednesday, November 13, finale of The Golden Bachelorette — and world-renowned astrologer Susan Miller is weighing in on the pair’s chances of making it as a couple.
Joan’s sun sign is Capricorn and Chock’s is Virgo, which Miller says is an auspicious match.
“The reason I like Capricorn with Virgo is they’re both earth signs. They’re both dealing with reality,” Miller exclusively tells Us Weekly. “And that’s so important when you make a big decision like getting married. They know what they want. They know themselves really well.”
Joan and Chock, who are both 61, also have the same moon sign: Leo.
“That means what makes them emotionally comfortable and feel safe is the same elements,” Miller explains. “They have a sense of fun. They want a little touch of luxury so they will agree on those little indulgences.”
The astrology expert notes that the “only conflict” present in the duo’s charts is that Joan “might want to travel a little bit more” than Chock due to their different Venus signs.
“[Chock] has Venus in Virgo. He’s not generally likely to make quick, off-the-cuff decisions. He is going to really think things through carefully because Virgos [are] analytical,” Miller says. “And [Joan’s] Venus is in Sagittarius. Sagittarius Venus is the one sign that kind of steps away from marriage for as long as possible so that they don’t make a mistake. She loves to travel and has to be sure marriage won’t hem her in.”
Miller says that based on his Virgo Venus, Chock doesn’t feel the same need to travel because he tends to be more focused on work.
“He’s a hard worker,” she says. “This is not the kind of guy who’s looking for a meal ticket, you know [the types who] latch on to a successful woman. No. He wants to be successful in his own right. And he prides himself on providing for his family.”
While Chock might not have Joan’s wanderlust, he would nevertheless be “the best person to travel with” due to his Virgo placements, Miller says.
“The one person you definitely want to travel with is somebody with a lot of planets in Virgo,” explains Miller, whose Year Ahead 2025 Astrological Wall Calendar is available now. “They love doing the research. They want to start [planning] six months in advance to be sure not to miss any of the location’s features and hot spots.”
Joan has Mars in Leo while Chock’s is in Scorpio, and Mars dictates how you show assertiveness, according to Miller.
“They’re both strong-willed,” she says of the duo’s Mars signs. “They both have their own opinions, but this is good — conversation will be lively and each is interested in hearing the other’s point of view. Also, one partner is not likely to dominate the other.”
After reading Joan and Chock’s charts, Miller is “surprised” that such a strong match was formed on a reality TV show.
“This could be real,” the astrologer says. “They’re normal, and I just feel they have a good chance for success. … They really have a shot here at lovely romance.”
Chock proposed to Joan after she sent Golden Bachelorette runner-up Guy Gansert home early. The twosome hit it off from the jump, with Chock getting the first one-on-one date of the season.
“From our first date in Disneyland, I thought I saw a future with you, and it’s the first time I pictured a future with anybody else in a really long time,” Joan, whose husband of 32 years, John, died in 2021 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, told Chock during the finale.
Chock temporarily left the show early in the season after the death of his mother, but returned to continue getting to know Joan.
“I wanted you to go, but I was really worried that you weren’t going to make it back. And that’s when I realized that I couldn’t do this journey without you,” Joan said during the finale. “I waited until this moment in this amazing location to tell you that I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
At that point, Chock got down on one knee.
