National Baton Twirling Championships is back in town!

The event is taking place at Notre Dame and IU South Bend this week.

It features the best twirlers from around the country in all age groups.

The event started back in 1947 and has created an environment of friendship and competition.

One twirler looks forward to a strong competition.

“I’ve had a good week. I’ve had a couple top ten placements, which I was super happy with. And I’m looking forward to the rest of today. I’m doing my solo for the Miss Majorite of America pageant. So looking forward to that and hoping for the best,” said Ryleigh Richard, University of Colorado Twirler.

While many twirlers come from across the country, some have connections right here in Michiana.

“Yeah, I love it here. I have a lot of family here actually. My mom was born here, my dad was born here. So I love coming down here, having fun, doing my sport, going to go see my family. So it’s really fun to come down here,” said Madeline Pirce, Twirler.

The competition goes through Friday afternoon.
