The Mets saw their five-game winning streak come to a thudding end against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
The 5-0 defeat was the first blemish for the Mets at Citi Field this season, but now the Amazins head out to the West Coast for a weekend set with the Athletics.
Griffin Canning will get the assignment for the Mets, while JP Sears will toe the rubber for the A’s.
The Mets are -135 favorite at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.

Mets vs. Athletics betting preview
Canning has been effective in his first two outings as a Met.
The 28-year-old has a 2.79 ERA through 9 ⅔ innings and has struck out 10 of the 40 batters he’s faced.
It seems the Mets are happy to keep Canning, who spent the previous five years with the Angels, on a relatively short leash in the beginning stages of the season.
In recent seasons, you’d suggest this is a pearl of a matchup for Canning, but the A’s are putting up some strong offensive numbers out of the gates in 2025.

The Athletics rank 10th in wOBA and seventh in wRC+ through the first 12 games of the campaign.
Like Canning, JP Sears has been solid, though unspectacular, through two outings this season.
Sears is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA and 3.40 xERA in 13 innings.
Mets vs. Athletics pick
The Mets are a much better team than the Athletics, but these odds look a bit too wide given the pitching matchup.
Sears may not blow you away, but he’s not going to give up many walks and he’s always a threat to end rallies before they get started with groundballs.
Offensively, the A’s should provide a stiff enough challenge for Canning to give the underdogs a puncher’s chance Friday night.
Pick: Athletics moneyline (+115, BetMGM)
