Culinary icon Bobby Flay wears many hats — chef, TV star, restauranteur. Many Flay fans know of the famous foodie’s love of cats. The Food Network star even launched his own cat food brand, Made by Nacho. The moniker was inspired Flay’s feline friend, an orange Maine Coon cat who the chef considered a precious pal.
Sadly, Nacho passed away in October 2023 at the age of 9. In his cat companion’s memory, Flay partnered with the New York animal shelter Paws Crossing. The restaurant owner promised to donate Made by Nacho products to every animal in the shelter until they are adopted to their forever families. In a special nod to Nacho, April 5 was declared the first-ever National Nacho Flay day to celebrate his beloved friend.
Flay shared his tour of Paws Crossing to show his followers the adorable residents awaiting a home.
Fans praised Flay’s generosity and couldn’t get enough of the cuddly kitties.
“How awesome! Thank you for doing this ❤️And yes, Nacho would be so proud,” a fan shared.
“It’s one thing to have the ability to help, but quite another to actually help. Well done, Mr. Flay. Well done,” another raved.
“This looks like such an awesome place!!” a follower posted.
“You should definitely take one or two home with you,” a fan advised.
Flay posted a heartwarming tribute to Nacho upon his passing, sharing what his companion cat meant to him.
“It is with an absolute broken heart that I report Nacho has passed away peacefully,” Flay wrote on Instagram alongside a precious pic of Nacho. I usually don’t post private family business but I truly believe he was everyone’s cat in some way. Nacho had a magic about him that was truly special. He came into my life when I needed him most and brought joyful moment after joyful moment to my household.”
He advised his fans to show their pets the love they deserve. “Give your pets an extra long hug today and please say a short prayer for Nacho,” the caption continued. They mean so much to all of us.”
Flay is clearly turning his pain into purpose in honor of Nacho.
