DETROIT — The Jets lost running back Breece Hall in the fourth quarter to a thigh injury suffered as he made a run from the Detroit 4-yard line for no gain.
He finished with just 32 yards on 13 carries, the second consecutive game he’s struggled after rushing for more than 100 yards in the season opener.
“It sucks, but it’s part of the game,” Hall said after the game. “I felt something when I was running, and then got tackled and planted it and felt something. So, we’ll see.’’
The Jets also lost LG Dylan Parham to a left knee injury in the third quarter. That looks like the more serious of the injuries the Jets endured in the game.
The Jets offense faced the Lions with a compromised receiving corps Sunday.
Starter Adonai Mitchell, who was questionable with a finger injury suffered when he got it caught in the uniform of a teammate in practice Thursday, was inactive for the game.
Mitchell, who’s been targeted a team-high 15 times with nine receptions for 123 yards, practiced Friday with a heavy wrap on his right hand with his index and middle fingers appearing to be in a splint.
Head coach Aaron Glenn has not disclosed the actual injury, but he did say, “I don’t think it’s broke.”
The Jets already have WRs already on injured reserve (rookie Omar Cooper Jr., Tim Patrick and Arian Smith), and the Jets were left to play the game with starter Garrett Wilson and several role players.
Alongside Wilson were Isaiah Williams, undrafted free agent rookie Malik McClain, Sterling Shepard and Jamaal Pritchett, both of whom were signed off the practice squad. Shepherd caught one pass for 3 yards but also caught a key two-point conversion pass that tied the game at 24-24.
The Jets were also without TE Mason Taylor, who missed the game with a thumb injury.
On the plus side, rookie CB D’Angelo Ponds and edge rusher Joseph Ossai, who missed the first two games, made their respective debuts with the team. Ponds played only very sparingly on defense and got a couple snaps on special teams.
TE Jelani Woods made a catch for 20 yards in the second quarter. It was his first offensive touch of the season. With TDs from TEs Kenyon Sadiq and Jeremy Ruckert, it marked the first game where the Jets had multiple TEs catch a TD pass since 2019.
The incredible streak with no INTs for the Jets defense reached 20 games Sunday, spanning 632 pass attempts by opposing QBs. … The inactive Jets, other than Mitchell and Taylor, included RB Kene Nwangwu, CB Nahshon Wright, S Minkah Fitzpatrick, LB Kiko Mauigoa and K Blake Grupe.
