DiJonai Carrington brought the drama to Monday’s matchup with Caitlin Clark and the Fever.
The Sun guard became a viral meme when she was seen mocking Clark for flopping on a foul call in the second quarter of Connecticut’s eventual win over Indiana, 89-72, at Mohegan Sun Arena.
With less than four minutes to play before halftime, Carrington was called for a foul on Clark at the top of the perimeter and then started to mimic the rookie in a flop motion repeatedly.
Clark looked back at Carrington and appeared to say something before the two separated.
Carrington — who finished with a season-high 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals — reposted a clip of the moment on X, as well as a meme of her mocking Clark.
“Ayoooooo, I ammmm dramaaaa,” Carrington wrote, adding a bunch of crying-laughing emojis.
The Skims model, who got it done on both ends of the floor, continued to make a strong case for the WNBA’s Most Improved Player award after moving into the starting lineup from a bench role the year prior.
Clark has been called out for embellishing fouls and flopping while adjusting to the physicality at the pro level.
The Sun limited Clark to 10 points on 3-for-8 shooting in their third straight win against the Fever this season.
At one point in the third quarter, Clark air-balled a floater from the free-throw line and looked defeated.
The former Iowa All-American has had her fair share of welcome-to-the-league moments, including hard fouls and trash talk.
Clark, 22, dominated headlines when she was not included in the 12-player Team USA roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which leaked over the weekend.
Clark confirmed that she received a call from USA basketball officials that she was not named to the roster after receiving an invitation to the 14-player training camp in April.
She missed the final camp before the summer Olympics as she and the Hawkeyes advanced to the Final Four in the NCAA tournament, with Iowa ultimately coming up short against South Carolina in the national championship game.
Clark, along with the Connecticut Sun’s Brionna Jones, are on top of the alternates list, should Team USA need a replacement, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Monday.
