Chanel West Coast is ready for her cowgirl era.
“I have a new country single dropping April 11,” West Coast, 36, exclusively revealed to Us Weekly at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday, March 17. “It’s very different from all the music I’ve ever dropped before. I’m really excited about this one!”
While fans may know the MTV star for her hip-hop music and hosting gigs on Ridiculousness and Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, West Coast said she recently discovered that singing country music is the genre that “really shows off my talent.”
“I had a couple of people be like, ‘Hold on, girl. Why are you rapping? We need to be doing this.’ I started experimenting more with country,” she explained to Us at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. “Country also has a lot of rhymes involved. It’s very similar to hip-hop in that sense. It all rhymes. I don’t think people realize how similar they are.”
West Coast — who shares daughter Bowie, 2, with boyfriend Dom Fenison — said it was a “really easy transition” and she can’t wait for her loyal fans to hear more.
“Here’s the best way to put it,” she shared. “I made this joke to my boyfriend. If you like Miranda Lambert with Gwen Stefani style, that’s Chanel West Coast. And I have to say, ‘Sorry Blake Shelton, but I’m taken.’”
Earlier this month, West Coast raised eyebrows when she posted a photo in the music studio with fellow country singer Tyler Rich.
The man behind the hits “Leave Her Wild” and “Better Than You’re Used to” hinted they were collaborating on something new when he commented, “Today was fun! What a song 👏.”
After years of dealing with the highs and lows of the music industry, West Coast said those in power didn’t immediately brush off her ideas to explore country. Instead, she was pleasantly surprised by the initial response to her new sounds.
“I definitely got that reaction of like, ‘OK, we gotta hear this,’” she explained. “But then once the people hear it, they’re like, ‘We get it. This is what you should have been doing 20 years ago.’”
One person who is already a fan of the new music is West Coast’s daughter. After getting a sneak peek of the song, Bowie proved she approves in her own unique way.
“She’s obsessed,” West Coast shared. “She always goes, ‘Good song mama. Good song.’”
