(NewsNation) — Actress Cheryl Hines initially expressed disbelief when her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., said he was running for president.

“A few years ago, Bobby came to me and said, ‘How would you feel if I ran for president?’” she told The Times of London. “And I said, ‘President of what?’”

The ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ star said she thought Kennedy meant “a board or a company,” before he responded, “of the United States.”

She told The Times of London that at first, she decided to keep his decision to run between them and chose to speak in code.

“We had long, dramatic conversations about starting a cookie company. I knew that our lives wouldn’t be the same,” Hines said.

Hines said Kennedy, who would eventually become the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, told her she could tell him not to run, but she felt that, as his wife, she couldn’t discourage him from running.

“He certainly gave me the opportunity to say no… But I can’t imagine what kind of a partner would say, ‘No, I don’t want you to pursue something that is so important to you,’” she said. “Nobody wants to live like that. What’s the saying? You end up regretting the things you don’t do more than the things that you do. So, in theory, I could have said no, but… It’s not how you treat somebody you love.”

Cheryl Hines ‘Unscripted’

Hines is still making the rounds promoting her memoir “Unscripted.”

She did not write about rumors that her husband had an affair in her new memoir, “Unscripted,” according to NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.

Last year, Olivia Nuzzi, the Washington correspondent for New York Magazine, was fired by the publication after reports surfaced that she and Kennedy had an undisclosed relationship while she was covering the 2024 presidential election.

In Nuzzi’s upcoming book, “American Canto,” she said that Kennedy told her that, despite him publicly saying he had a worm in his brain, he didn’t.

“Baby, don’t worry,” she claims he said. “It’s not a worm.”

Hines reportedly delves into the fallout from her Hollywood relationships due to Kennedy’s political stances, saying Larry David and the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” cast won’t talk to her.
