It’s all about the money, baby.
On Wednesday’s episode of “Early Start With Rahel Solomon,” CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Entensaid that most American voters don’t think President Donald Trump“gives a hoot” about the current state of the economy — and that the Republican Party “should be scared s-h-blank-blank-blank-less” about it.
“Donald Trump might be trying to downplay voters’ concerns about affordability, but I’m here to tell you that is a ginormous error,” Enten said. “It may be an error that goes down in political infamy.”

Enten went on to explain that data shows that during the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, more Americans trusted that Trump was more capable of fixing “the problem of inflation” than his opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris.
A year later, however, it seems that most voters feel like Trump sold them nothing more than a bunch of useless snake oil when it comes to his economic policies.

“Look at where we are today. Donald Trump is underwater with the Titanic when it comes to inflation,” Enten said, noting that the president’s net approval rating is now 26 points in the negative.
“My goodness gracious,” Enten said about Trump’s plummeting numbers.

Enten went on to point out that Trump’s go-to tactic of passing “the political buck” when “things aren’t going his way” isn’t going to fly this time, especially if he’s placing the blame on his predecessor, former President Joe Biden.
“That, simply put, will not work,” Enten said, pointing to data sourced from “poll after poll after poll” that indicated that 54% of voters believe that Trump is more responsible for their financial woes, compared to the 21% who blame Biden.

“Now, of course, it’s one thing if voters don’t like the state of the economy,” Enten said. “But it’s another thing when they don’t think that Donald Trump actually gives a hoot.”
He then pulled up data that showed that 75% of voters feel that Trump is “not paying enough attention to lowering costs” — and that this opinion is held by 57% of Republicans.

Enten said that the GOP “should be scared s-h-blank-blank-blank-less” over Trump’s let-them-eat-cake vibes, because voters are clearly ticked off. Enten pointed to Democrats’ big wins in local elections earlier this month, and noted that midterm elections are in a year.
“If these numbers hold and Donald Trump continues to try [to] ignore a problem that Americans very much think we have in terms of cost of living, affordability, well, it might be adios, amigos.”
“Goodbye for that House majority, and I daresay, the Republican Senate majority as well,” Enten said.

Funny enough, not-so-dumb actor Jeff Daniels made a similar call earlier this year when he told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace in July that he hopes Trump voters are “losing tons of money.”
“I think, at the end of the day, that’s what’s going to do it,” the Emmy-winner said of Trump supporters turning on the president because of money. “‘Wait a minute, the grocery bill is what, $180 more? I can’t get that car that we have to have unless I pay another $8,000. What? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that?’ One person.”
