Lara Trump was accused of gaslighting after she claimed on Thursday that her father-in-law Donald Trump — who relentlessly spewed divisive rhetoric on the campaign trail and is still this week referring to Democrats as “Radical Left Lunatics” — will actually be a “unifying person for this country” in his second term.

“Anyone who is afraid right now, you should not be afraid,” the president-elect’s daughter-in-law, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee who is married to Trump scion Eric, insisted to The Washington Post’s Carol Leonnig at the newspaper’s 2024 Global Women’s Summit.

There was “a lot of truly fear mongering” during the 2024 presidential election campaign about Donald Trump that was “completely unwarranted and unfair,” Lara Trump claimed, conveniently ignoring the incoming POTUS’ frequent attacks on and calls to prosecute Democratic rivals Joe Biden and then Kamala Harris and anyone who criticized him.

People will realize Donald Trump is “not hell-bent on revenge or retribution of any variety,” Lara Trump argued, saying he is “not on a revenge tour, he is not on a retribution tour.”

“And I know some people will find that really outrageous and hard to believe but I kind of think you’re already seeing some of the steps towards that direction right now,” she added.

Critics, though, didn’t buy the idea. Others criticized the Post, which has drawn blowback in recent weeks for not endorsing a candidate in the 2024 election, for giving Lara Trump and former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway a platform at its event.
