It didn’t exactly have the stakes of LeBron James’ “The Decision,” but Daniel Jones has made up his mind.
The former Giants quarterback chose the Colts over the Vikings in NFL free agency, landing a one-year, $14 million contract, according to ESPN.
He will challenge Anthony Richardson for the starting job in Indianapolis.
After asking for and being granted his release from the Giants last year, Jones signed with the Vikings and spent the rest of the year in Minnesota, though he didn’t see any game action.
The Vikings let Sam Darnold, who enjoyed a career renaissance last year as Minnesota’s starting quarterback, hit the open market and subsequently sign with the Seahawks on a three-year, $100.5 million deal, per multiple reports.
The Vikings already have J.J. McCarthy, whom they drafted with the No. 10-overall pick last year, on the roster at quarterback.
He underwent two separate knee surgeries and missed all of last season, though, and his rehab and uncertainty could have given Jones a chance to battle for a starting gig.
And the Colts already have Richardson, whom they drafted with the No. 4-overall pick in 2023, on the roster at quarterback.
But he’s struggled mightily across two seasons in the NFL, with a lowly 50.6 completion percentage, 11 total touchdowns and 13 interceptions while also missing significant time to injuries.
The Colts also benched him last year, and multiple reports emerged of coaches and teammates questioning his leadership and focus.
Richardson’s struggles could provide Jones a chance to win a starting job there, as well.
Jones spent five-plus seasons with the Giants, recording a 64.1 completion percentage, 70 total touchdown and 47 interceptions.
