
David Stearns left the Winter Meetings with a shopping list as long as the one he brought to the gathering in Orlando, Fla.
But the market at least became more defined for the Mets president of baseball operations following three large contract agreements, all of which had some bearing on how Stearns will proceed in building a roster for 2026.
Pete Alonso, Kyle Schwarber and Edwin Díaz are the three significant names that came off the board, and none with a contract from the Mets.
Alonso and Diaz’s contracts, with the Orioles and Dodgers, respectively, delivered a gut punch to a fan base that had become attached to both stars.
