It was the shot heard around the basketball world the last time South Carolina women’s basketball and Tennessee met.
On March 9, 2024, former Gamecocks star center Kamilla Cardoso hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.1 second on the clock to beat the Lady Vols in the SEC Tournament semifinal, preventing Tennessee from handing South Carolina its first loss.
Now with new coach Kim Caldwell, the No. 17 Lady Vols (15-4, 3-4 SEC) host the No. 2 Gamecocks (19-1, 7-0) in Knoxville on Monday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN2) at the Food City Center.
The Lady Vols are coming off a four-point loss to No. 7 Texas on Thursday. South Carolina beat No. 4 LSU 66-56 on Friday, ending the undefeated start to the Tigers’ season.
Here is what to know about Tennessee ahead of the matchup:
Will Tennessee’s Kim Caldwell coach against South Carolina?
Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell gave birth to her first child, a baby boy named Conor on Jan. 20, three days before the players and team were in Austin, Texas. Assistant coach Jenna Burdette handled head coaching duties in Caldwell’s absence.
On Sunday afternoon, Caldwell addressed the media and said she plans to coach Monday night, according to Cora Hall of The Knoxville Sentinel.
Kim Caldwell says she plans to coach tomorrow for the No. 17 Lady Vols vs No. 2 South Carolina.
Caldwell gave birth to her son, Conor, last week on Monday. She only missed one game, Tennessee at Texas, due to the delivery and was back in practice on Friday

She’s averaging 17.8 points per game to go with 5.7 rebounds. She’s scored more than 20 points in eight games, including a season-high 33 points on Nov. 16 against Liberty.
