Deion Sanders has a bone to pick with former president Barack Obama.
The bombastic Colorado football coach, 57, took exception to comments made about his Buffaloes by Obama, 63, in Arizona, where Sanders’ squad improved to 5-2 with a blowout win over the Wildcats on Saturday.
“President Obama is everything to me,” Sanders said postgame. “I mean, I love him, I admire him. I respect him tremendously. But I heard what he said, you know?”
Before Colorado decimated Arizona, 34-7, Obama — who spent time in the state to campaign on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee — tipped his hat to the Wildcats.
“As we landed, we saw Colorado’s busses at the airport,” Obama said Friday, as the mention of Colorado elicited boos from the crowd, per USA Today. “And I know Colorado’s got a couple good players. But I also know you guys have beaten them twice in a row, so don’t bet against the Wildcats tomorrow.”
The Wildcats dropped to 3-4 with the loss.
Sanders continued to playfully rib Obama in his postgame session.
“President, I heard what you said, man. Like c’mon, c’mon. That’s why I really don’t get into politics. I’m into people. Because politicians, they play the political game, and he was here and had to play the political games that they have two good players. We got more than two good players. But then you’re here (in Tucson), so you have to support that,” Sanders said.
With the latest victory, Sanders and the Buffaloes have already won more football games than they did all of last year, when they finished at 4-8.
Saturday’s win also puts them at 3-1 in the Big 12 ahead of their matchup next week with Cincinnati (5-2 overall).
The Buffaloes boast projected first-round pick Shedeur Sanders at quarterback and two-way star Travis Hunter, a wide receiver and cornerback, among other prominent players.
“But president, c’mon man,” Sanders added toward Obama. “You my man. I love you, I appreciate you, but c’mon dawg. God bless you. I still love you.”
