Demi Moore is reflecting on her style evolution.

From movie roles to the red carpet, the actress, 62, has no shortage of memorable beauty and fashion looks. For PEOPLE’s World’s Most Beautiful cover, the star looked back at some of her standout moments over the years, including her famous pixie cut from 1990’s Ghost.

Moore shares that when she first met the film’s director, Jerry Zucker, she had “very long hair.” After their initial meeting, the Landman actress went on a trip to Paris with then-husband, Bruce Willis, and their oldest daughter, Rumer Willis.

“I had been carrying around a picture in my wallet at the time of Isabella Rossellini with this gorgeous haircut for years, waiting for the opportunity,” Moore recalls. “I literally walked [to a hair salon near] where we were staying in Paris, speaking no French, pulled out this picture and said, ‘Can I have this?'”

The star says she then returned to the set of the film, causing “some serious panic and serious s— hitting the fan,” but noting that the production team “really did come around.”

“[My character] was an artist, a ceramicist, and all of that, and it kind of fit,” she explains. “It wasn’t an intentional thing to shock them, I think I just really needed a change.”

Now that long hair has become her signature, Moore says it’s unlikely that she’ll ever return to the pixie — but not impossible. “I don’t ever like to say never because you never know,” she shares, adding, “but I have grown quite attached to my hair.”

Moore attributes the attachment to shaving her head for the 1997 action film G.I. Jane, in which she plays a soldier undergoing Navy SEAL training. “Every time I see these, all I can [think] is, ‘Oh my god, I’m so big,'” she says when shown a photo of herself during this time. “Probably a good 40 pounds bigger than I am now. And I was very tan.”

The Substance actress also looks back at her blonde moment from 1990. “My hair had been blonde because I was shooting a film The Butcher’s Wife,” she recalls. “I had the short hair from Ghost and so it was growing out,” noting that she wore a long blonde wig over her dyed blonde hair.

“This was a very fun time for me to have blonde hair,” Moore continues, noting that the transformation also taught her a valuable lesson. “What I realized very quickly is that dyeing your hair blonde trashes it,” she says. “But it was fun while I had it.”

Moore also reflects on some of her best fashion moments, such as the iconic Thierry Mugler dress she wore in 1993’s Indecent Proposal. “I did hear it was the most copied dress of the year,” she says. “I only heard about it after the fact.”

She continues, “The dress was such an important part of the story … it needed to be something unique that stood out, that was memorable.” The actress says that after filming, she gave the dress to Planet Hollywood and is now trying to get it back.

“I don’t know where I would wear it, but most definitely I would,” Moore says. “This is something that I really think would hold up. It would stand the test of time. Good design does.”

As the 2025 Met Gala nears, the actress shares her thoughts on two of her most iconic Met moments. In 2001, she made her debut at the star-studded event in a gold gown by Donna Karan. Moore says her appearance at the gala was last-minute. “I just happened to be in New York and Donna said, ‘Oh, you should come with me,’ and we whipped a dress together,” she remembers.

For the 2024 Met, Moore stunned in a sculptural Harris Reed gown that was custom-made from vintage wallpaper. The designer previously shared that the dress required 11,000 hours of silk embroidery work. The actress calls the creation “extraordinary,” noting that the “wings” were able to be removed so she could walk up the iconic staircase.

“Because we didn’t realize until after I was in it that I wouldn’t actually be able to move my legs to go up the stairs,” she recalls.
