The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall on deodorant sold online and at several major retail chains countrywide.
In total, over 67,000 cases of three different types of deodorant were recalled for CGMP deviations. The recall has not yet been assigned a class, meaning it is unclear exactly how harmful the products could be to those who use them. Originally initiated on July 10, the recall has received increased media attention in days since as returns are made.
Details on the recall issued by the FDA are limited as of July 22; here’s everything we know so far.
What deodorants have been recalled?
In total, 67,214 cases of deodorant are under recall by the FDA. The types of deodorants being recalled include:
-
Power Stick for her roll-on Antiperspirant Deodorant Powder Fresh, 1.8 oz
-
Power Stick Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant Spring Fresh, 1.8 oz
-
Power Stick Original Nourishing Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant, 1.8 oz
Why is deodorant being recalled?
All deodorants on the FDA list were recalled due to “CGMP deviations,” with no further information provided on the reason for the recall in the notice. According to the FDA, CGMP refers to Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations enforced by the agency.
In drug products like deodorant, CGMP “provides for systems that assure proper design, monitoring, and control of manufacturing processes and facilities.” These regulations assure identity, strength, quality and purity of drug products by requiring manufacturers of medications to control manufacturing operations.
Where was the recalled deodorant sold?
The recalled deodorant originated from seller A.P. Deauville LLC, located in Easton, Pennsylvania. It was sold on Amazon and at Walmart and Dollar Tree stores countrywide.
