Far-left state lawmaker Angie Nixon defeated retired Army Lt. Col. Alex Vindman in the Florida Democratic special Senate primary election Tuesday night.

Nixon led Vindman 55.2% to 44.8% with more than 80% of ballots counted when the Associated Press called the race in her favor.

Nixon is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, while Vindman served as a key witness in President Trump’s first impeachment trial over his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Nixon will take on incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) in November. The winner of that race will serve the remainder of the six-year term that Marco Rubio was elected to in 2022.

Moody won the GOP Senate primary with nearly 80% of the vote.
