Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was the one who called 911 after the couple’s son allegedly shot her twice in what has been described as a “domestic disturbance,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman told a local news station Monday.
Speaking with WJLA, Chapman said that the alleged shooting victim was the one to call for help from paramedics and authorities after being shot “a couple of times” during the incident.
The Sheriff did not specifically name Mia or Eric while speaking with the outlet, though did confirm that Elijah Zion Bieniemy was in custody.
“She had called in – the mother, who we know – had called in the shooting, and it was involving the son, so that’s where we’re at right now,” he said.
It had been reported earlier in the day that Mia had been in stable condition after sustaining gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.
Eric has been at the hospital by his wife’s side following the incident and after being with the Chiefs for training camp in Missouri at the time of the shooting.
Elijah is being held without bond and is facing three felony charges, including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.
The sheriff said that he wasn’t aware of any other incidents that took place “at that particular residence,” and he was not privy to “any prior arrests” related to Elijah.
“I’m not aware of any, but we’re going to conduct that research,” Chapman said.
As of now, the investigation is ongoing.
“We have to go through an entire investigation to find out exactly where everybody was, what everybody did, what prompted it, how it all transpired, but we’re investigating right now,” he said.
