SAN ANTONIO —David Stearns received plenty of congratulatory messages for the Mets’ season — including one from the manager he fired.
Buck Showalter sent text messages after the season to Stearns, the Mets president of baseball operations, and first-year manager Carlos Mendoza to congratulate them on the team’s success.
The Mets advanced to Game 6 of the NLCS before losing to the Dodgers.
“It was a great gesture from [Showalter],” Stearns told The Post on Wednesday at the GM meetings. “Obviously he had a lot to do with moving the organization forward, so it was really nice to hear from him.”
Showalter, with Stearns’ hiring set to be officially announced the following day, was fired at the conclusion of the 2023 season. Showalter’s three-year contract with the team expired last week.
