Ex-Mets scout always believed in A.J. Ewing’s potential — and received ‘bright spot’ when he needed it most

Joe Raccuia’s voice is still a bit weak from the stroke he recently suffered, but the former Mets scout wanted to talk, even while recuperating in the hospital.

“Anything for A.J.,” Raccuia said by phone Friday. “I love the kid.”

Raccuia is now the national crosschecker for hitting with the Royals after previously working for the Mets, scouting draftable players.

That’s how he came across A.J. Ewing during the Mets rookie’s senior season at Springboro H.S. in Ohio.
