A state-of-the art spine center from one of New York City’s highest-ranked hospitals has opened in Hudson Yards‘ ritzy new skyscraper today.
Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian/The Spiral occupies the entire second floor of The Spiral, which opened last year.
Spanning 50,000 square feet, the spine center has 33 exam rooms, six procedure rooms and a 2,000-square-foot rehabilitation gym.
It’s staffed by experts from both Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine who will see patients at the same location for the first time.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell ranked number one in the U.S. News & World Report‘s 2024 best New York City hospitals ranking. It was a four-way tie with Mount Sinai Hospital, North Shore University Hospital at Northwell Health in Manhasset, and NYU Langone Hospitals.
Och Spine also has locations on the Upper East Side, Inwood, Washington Heights, Queens, Westchester and New Jersey.
The new outpatient facility has areas for physical therapy, both surgical and nonsurgical procedures and radiology, complete with MRI machines, CT scanners, X-ray machines and an EOS machine, which creates 2D and 3D X-rays with low-dose radiation.
Patients can see multiple specialists in a single visit. Practicing out of the center include orthopedic and neurological surgeons, neurologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, pain management specialists, radiologists and physical therapists.
“This beautiful state-of-the-art facility matches the world-class experts who will work side-by-side to deliver comprehensive, personalized spine care,” Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and chief executive officer of NewYork-Presbyterian, said.
Dr. Lawrence Lenke, co-director of Och Spine at NewYork-Presbyterian and chief of spinal deformity surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, said the center “will allow us to take care of the full spectrum of spine patients — locally, regionally, nationally and internationally — and help them return to their lives and communities.”
The new center — funded in part by the Jane and Daniel Och Family Foundation, which contributed $50 million — will treat conditions, including scoliosis, spinal deformities, spine injuries, degenerative spinal disease and neck and back pain.
NewYork-Presbyterian signed a 20-year lease with Tishman Speyer, which paid $438 million for The Spiral site in 2014, and financed the project for $3.7 billion in 2018.
The Spiral is also home to HSBC, SEB Group, Debevoise & Plimpton, a law firm, Alliance Bernstein, an investment company, and Pfizer.
The top floor of the building is home to ZO, a clubhouse lounge with an open-air terrace, pool tables and a café.
