If they can’t make it to the White House maybe they’ll consider Sin City.
Rapper and music icon Flavor Flav stepped up for the gold-medal-winning United States women’s hockey team after their overtime win over Canada to offer them a celebration after they declined an invitation to the White House due to scheduling conflicts.
“If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite … I’ll host them in Las Vegas. Do some nice dinners, shows, and good times. I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me out here and celebrate these women for real for real,” he posted on his social media account.
The Public Enemy rapper later shared an Instagram post showing him commenting on X: “But they accepted my invitation to celebrate in Las Vegas.” While that comment no longer appears on his X account, he has been in communication with airlines and brands about setting up the festivities.
President Donald Trump had a tongue-in-cheek comment to the men about also inviting the women’s victorious squad after he invited them.
“We have, I must tell you, we are going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that. I do believe I would probably be impeached (if he didn’t invite them),” he said Sunday.
Flavor Flav, whose real name is Williams Jonathan Drayton Jr., has already started sending invitations to the women’s team in emails he’s shared on social media.
“I am reaching out on behalf of Flavor Flav. First, massive congratulations on the gold!!” the email read. “We saw the story about the men’s invite to the White House, and the not-quite invite for the women’s team.”
Flavor Flav has long been a major women’s sports supporter, helping discus thrower Veronica Fraley pay off rent, among other examples of his generosity to help female sports get off the ground.
The woman turned down the White House invite due to a scheduling conflict and prior engagements.
“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement,” a USA Hockey spokesperson said, according to NBC News.
“Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.
“They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”
However you shake it, a celebration is being planned by the rap mogul.
Team USA Olympic athletes are not paid to complete, relying on money from sponsors, which are all over the place in terms of what each individual receives.
