Fruit and vegetable products sold in New York grocery stores have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced last week.

Connecticut-based Gracie’s Kitchens issued a recall on Nov. 28 of all of the company’s fruit and vegetable products manufactured at their facility between Nov. 4-13 after sampling indicated listeria had been found in the environment. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The company did not immediately respond to the USA TODAY Network’s request for comment.

What symptoms you should look out for

Listeria symptoms can vary but the bacteria is most likely to sicken people who are pregnant and newborns, adults aged 65 and older and people with weakened immune systems, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Symptoms can include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, seizures, diarrhea and vomiting.

  • People who are not pregnant usually have a fever, muscle aches, and tiredness. They may also get a headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or seizures.

  • Pregnant people usually have fever, muscle aches, and tiredness. However, listeria can cause pregnancy loss or premature birth and cause serious illness or death in newborns.

Symptoms of severe illness usually start 1-4 weeks after eating listeria-contaminated food but could start as early as the same day or as late as 70 days after, according to the CDC.
