Plant-based food lovers are in for a month-long treat as the 2nd annual Vegan Chef Challenge begins July 1 and continues through July 31.

Restaurants and culinary chefs across Greenville will compete to crown the area’s best vegan dishes.

Hosted by the non-profit organization Vegan Outreach, the vegan food challenge has taken place in more than 50 cities across the U.S. for nearly a decade, encouraging and promoting healthy dining options and reducing acts of animal cruelty.

In 2023, about 15 Greenville restaurants and chefs participated in the competition. This year, 20-30 restaurants and private chefs will showcase their plant-based, vegan cuisine.

“Greenville was very exciting for us last year; out of the 30 cities, Greenville was the second most attended as far as how many people went out to eat and voted,” said Yuri Mitzkewich, regional coordinator for the event. “It was a very successful event last year, so we’re excited about doing it again this month.

How do you vote?

Diners are encouraged to try as many featured vegan dishes at the restaurants participating in the challenge and vote while on the premises using a QR code or through the competition website. Restaurant options range from casual doughnut shops to sit-down diners, food trucks, and private chefs.

At the end of July, a winner for the most voted, best vegan dish will be announced.
