Companionship volunteers needed

SouthernCare Hospice volunteers provide companionship and support to help patients and their families cope with end-of-life issues. As a SouthernCare Hospice volunteer, you would visit with a patient wherever they call home and brighten their day. Volunteers can play games, work on puzzles, read a book or poem, play music, watch TV, or participate in conversations with patients. SouthernCare trains volunteers through reading materials and one-on-one experience. Background check, drug screening, and 2-step TB screening are required. Volunteers must be 18 years and older. Adoptions assistant

While primarily sanctuary-focused, The Pipsqueakery receives hundreds of adoptable animals and periodically gets in large intakes of 100-200 animals from hoarding/abuse situations. This results in the need for adoption assistant volunteers. Tasks for these volunteers can include setting up enclosures and reviewing care charts under staff direction, socializing adoptable animals, assisting with administrative tasks to track intakes, attending adoption events, and more. The Pipsqueakery primarily adopts guinea pigs, rats, mice, chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, some reptiles, pigeons and other such animals. Learn more and fill out their application at https://tinyurl.com/adoption-assistants. Questions? Contact Katie Lo at [email protected].

Apply to serve on city boards and commissions

The city of Bloomington’s Office of the City Clerk and the Office of the Mayor are accepting applications from community members who would like to serve on one of the city’s boards or commissions. The city’s boards and commissions give residents the opportunity to provide input on the policies that shape our government and city. There are currently more than 45 boards and commissions that advise the mayor and city council on a vast array of issues. In addition to their advisory function, these bodies may work cooperatively with city departments to contribute to policy, approve resolutions, and fund projects, among other responsibilities. Visit https://tinyurl.com/city-boards-and-commissions to learn more, find links to current vacancies, and apply to fill a vacant seat. Please note: City residency is required for membership on most boards and commissions. For more information or assistance, contact Jennifer Crossley, deputy clerk, Office of the City Clerk, at [email protected].
