Everyone who has owned an Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palette since high school can thank this scientist for answering if it’s too old to still use.
TikTok user @the_lab_life1 posted a video testing her Naked Basics eyeshadow palette that she got in 2017 for bacteria.
“I know it’s from 2017 ’cause I got it for prom,” she captioned the video with 5.8 million views.
After putting on her lab coat, the user swabbed each of the six shades in the palette and put the contents of the swabs onto two Petri dishes.
She incubated the Petri dishes for 24 hours, removed them and discovered no sign of bacterial growth whatsoever from her seven-year-old palette.
Contrary to her experiment, makeup does indeed have expiration dates and experts often recommend tossing products once they pass the date listed.
“All the girlies collectively let out a sigh of relief,” one person commented in response to her findings.
Other users in the comments felt similarly.
“The way I held my breath because I still use palettes from a decade ago,” someone said.
“I was fully prepared to have to suffer selective amnesia but I was pleasantly surprised. Day made,” another quipped.
“Learning my eyeshadow palette that I also bought for prom is still good is the highlight of my day,” a user commented.
“Women in STEM SAVING LIVES THANK YOU SO MUCH,” one exclaimed.
