Sunday TODAY’s Willie Geist has invited a culinary icon to sit down with him for a live conversation — and you can join, too.
Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa herself, is Willie’s guest for his next Sunday Sitdown Live, taping Monday, May 19, with a live audience at City Winery at Pier 57 in New York City. This show comes after Willie’s first ever Sunday Sitdown Live, taped in January with comedian Nate Bargatze.
Garten and Willie will discuss a wide range of topics, from stories behind her famous recipes, to memories throughout her career. They’ll also touch on Garten’s memoir, “Be Ready When the Luck Happens,” which was released in October.
“(The book) went a little bit deeper into her personal life and her childhood,” Willie told TODAY.com. “But I’ve known her for some time now, and we’ve had interviews where I’ve been on her shows and she’s been on my shows. But we’ve also shared private meals and conversations and time together, which I think this will feel more like that.”
Garten and Willie’s friendship goes back some time; Garten is no stranger to TODAY and has chatted twice before with Willie for Sunday Sitdowns. Meanwhile, Willie and his wife, Christina, also appeared on Garten’s “Be My Guest” show on the Food Network back in 2022.
“It started professionally — I think it was with her coming on the TODAY show, and me admiring the way she worked and carried herself,” Willie shared. “We have the benefit of getting to see everyone behind the scenes, and just seeing as talented as she is and as great as she is, how truly humble that she is. I just love that about her.”
While Willie’s Sitdowns air on Sunday TODAY, attending the live show is a chance for viewers to see the extended conversation and even engage with the guest.
“Now we’re giving you the chance to literally sit there with us while we have the conversation — to participate, to submit questions, maybe to see her stir up a little something. There might be a little demo involved that we’re cooking up,” Willie said.
