On Jan. 6, 2021, history was made — but not in a good way.
What was meant to be a peaceful protest during the certification of the 2020 presidential election quickly turned into a horrifying event — a dark day in America’s history. Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. as politicians like Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Chuck Schumer hunkered down inside. A noose was found outside the Capitol, reportedly for then-Vice President Mike Pence.
As rioters destroyed historic statues and fought with police, the world watched in real-time — on TV, online and on social media. Five people died during the Capitol Riots.
Former president Donald Trump was impeached by the House on Jan. 13, 2021, for “incitement of insurrection” for provoking the riots.
Since then, January 6 has been known as “Insurrection Day.”
In a very ironic twist, January 6 is the birthday of Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump. It also is Three Kings Day. Below is a list of other celebrities who were born on January 6, information about the Christian holiday and what to know about Insurrection Day.
