National Republicans have selected Iowa GOP Chair Jeff Kaufmann to chair the Republican National Committee’s presidential nominating process.

I’m honored that President Trump and Chairman Gruters have asked me to lead this critical committee shaping our party’s presidential nominating process,” Kaufmann said. “This committee will be giving recommendations to determine whether Iowa Republicans remain first in the nation. I’m proud that Iowa continues to play a leading role in defining what it means to be a Republican and ensuring grassroots voters everywhere have a voice in choosing our next nominee. Together, we’ll build a process that reflects our values, strengthens our party, and positions us to win in 2028.

Kaufmann has been an avid supporter of Iowa remaining first in the nation. He has criticized Iowa Democrats for not going first in 2024, instead following national Democrats who removed Iowa from the early nominating calendar.

For 2028, national Democrats are starting over, and any state can once again apply to be in the early window. DNC Chair Ken Martin said he will be looking for a state that is fair, can test their nominees, and is cost-efficient.

Ahead of the 2024 general election and GOP Iowa caucuses, Republican presidential hopefuls flocked to Iowa, putting the state once again on the national stage — at least for Republicans.
